So today is my good friend, Juan’s birthday. Many know him as Tin, but because he never introduced himself to me as Tin, he will always be Juan to me. The great thing about making quality friends is that potential of meet more friends through them. I actually met Juan through a mutual friend, Jim at Penn State. I have met some of the most interesting and awesome friends through Juan, and this weekend was no exception. Thank you Juan for sharing your kick-ass friends with me.

My gift to you is this video so you to remember this unforgettable birthday. I hope you enjoy it.

Education for the Undead?

For Day 4’s project, Christian Bovine and I wanted to shoot a short video within 24 hours. A friend of mine in San Fransisco recently finished a 48 hour Film Festival, where contestants were given requirements such as character name or prop right before starting the 48 hour film production. Apple has a similar competition but 24 hours so it is definitely possible to complete. We decided that we wanted to attempt a similar constraint and created a web application that allowed ITP students to fill out possible requirements of a character’s name, prop and line of dialogue. We randomly chose: Mimmi Vanilla, cow and “Your chile is long.” We both agreed to wake up early to discuss possible concepts but instead I mentioned to Christian that “I feel like a zombie,” thus the birth of our new concept and tossing out the requirements all together. We developed the idea for Zombies attending ITP and asked the faculty and students to participate. Here is our video that we finished within a day. Enjoy.

David Arca and his Dirty Pigeons

So my good friend, David Arca invited me to help out in a sitcom he was planning to produce earlier this June. I was able to help out the first day and saw the script i read a few weeks earlier, come to life by the talented cast David put together. After a grueling three day shoot, I got over four hours of tapes to cut down to a neat and tidy 19-minute short sitcom, called Dirty Pigeons. I also cut up a trailer and director’s commentary which will also be submitted to The New York Television Festival.

Maypole in Tompkins Square Park

Kristin O’Friel couldn’t wait till May to put up a maypole. Armed with close friends, we made our way to the northeast corner of Tompkins Square Park. Everyone gathered around the middle basketball net as Rory Nugent was just tall enough to attach the several strands of long flowing ribbons of various colors. Each person was given a ribbon and directions to rotate as they weave the pattern onto the pole. I also had the opportunity to weave the first maypole.

Everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves working together to weaving this beautiful pattern in the park. We all moved to Astor Place to weave a second maypole in the middle Astor Island but traffic was a problem so we moved towards the south side in front of Chase bank. Although the location was not ideal, the safety of the maypolers was top priority. Even in the sprinkling snow, everyone seemed to be in good spirits as Kristin setup the maypole this time. We had a lot of people stop and ask what we were up to. Hopefully this maypole would spark curiosity for tomorrow’s daily commuters.

Guerrilla Artists

Over a cup of coffee a few days before our May Day celebration, Kristin brought up her interest in making art that would be created by the people who live in the neighborhood. These various objects, such as the maypole’s primary focus is to spark people’s interest in “beautifying” our urban landscape and not to mention have fun with friends/family. I definitely had an awesome time being part of creating something beautiful in the city. I will have to keep an eye out for both maypoles on my walk to and from ITP.
